Amigurumi - Crochet Toys

I have been wanting to write a post about some of the amigurumi projects I have worked on in the past for some time now. Making toys is what first got me excited about crochet, and I still LOVE to make them. There is something very satisfying about creating all the different elements and then putting them together to make a creature with a little face. . .
I'm looking forward to making all types of toys for little Ernie!
However, I have to put my toy making on hold ... not due to lack of time ... but because I somehow pulled something in my wrist during labor and can't manage to hold yarn to the tension I usually do to create the toys. The stitches must be very tight, or the stuffing pokes through (my pet peeve).  Oh well! I may tough it out sooner than later though!

The ant in the picture above is my own creation ... but I didn't record the pattern ... sorry!
Anyway - hope you enjoy!

Above is a swap package I sent out in late July. Our theme was "Under the Sea."
I had such a blast putting this together I had to share!
This is the best octopus pattern I have found. Small, cute and quick to whip up! I purchased this pattern from Ruby Submarine - I highly recommend this pattern!

This was another fun quick little project ... I could make a million of these little guys! I found this Turtle pattern on Ravelry ... I had a few issues with the pattern and ended up making a lot of adjustments. But it was free, so I can't complain, and it provides a good guide to start from.

These fish, and many of the following critters I found in two books by Ana Paula. I highly recommend her pattern books to anyone who would like to make some toys, I was still very new to crochet when I bought these books and still had little trouble following her patterns. The great thing about amigurumi is the only stitch you really need to know how to do is single crochet. It's a fun way to start crochet!

The little lion is one of my favorites!
I gave this Unicorn to one of my nieces for her 9th birthday ... she loved it!
It's such a great thing to still be able to make them things that they like ... only a matter of time before they are too cool for things like this!

This squid was the first toy I ever made! I was so proud! :)
I apologize for the poor quality of some of these photos,
many of them were taken with my old camera  phone.
I created this Squidbilly all on my own. I didn't write down the pattern ...
Well, that's about it for now ... I have made many other toys but can't seem to find any other pics... Let me know if you have any questions about how to find toy patterns!

Ernie is beginning to stir from his nap. He had his one month birthday two days ago! At his one month check up we learned he gained 2 pounds in two weeks! Since I'm nursing him I can't help but take pride in that! We love our chubby little bubby!

Hope to be back soon!

A Morning Stroll ...

Whoohoo! Last week my parents came in town for a visit - we were so happy to see them! It had been about a week since we had any visitors and were in need of a little break - Grandparents are always up for holding the baby! Yay for taking showers and doing laundry!

Well, I had not been outside really since Ernie was born, so I decided to take a walk with my Dad and Little E around one of our local lakes. It was such a beautiful day out! I really needed the fresh air and it was Ernie's first visit to the great outdoors.

Pretty enough to eat! Too bad there is no swimming allowed...

Sassafras!
The root of this plant is used in a lot of essential oils and it is most commonly known as being one of the originally ingredients in Root Beer. YUM!

The weather was beautiful that day ... it's funny how you can just tell that the seasons are starting to change. Something in the air just changes ... Fall is my very favorite season - it fills me with euphoria and excitement! I swear I can see some leaves starting to change around our town already ... Yay!

Such a peaceful quite walk ... it felt so good to be out in the natural air.

 So many pretty flowers!

As I'm putting this blog together, Mr. Ernie is starting to cry ... we have been battling with colic lately.
It's been tiring, but my husband and I are up for the challenge. We could not be more in love with our little boy ... I actually have been doing some crocheting with my "spare time" - HA! Basically I have found ways to occupy myself while the baby nurses ... I'll try to post with more pictures of those projects and a possible tutorial on simple crochet beanies.

Must go tend to the little one!

A Few Simple Things ...

Joy! My little boy is 12 days old today ... what love my husband and I have been feeling these days. My family left town today and we have a night to ourselves before more troops arrive. It's so nice to share our little Ernie with so many people who are so excited to see him!
I had some spare time (say whaaat?) so I thought I would put up a little post ...
It has been raining for what seems like days and day ... today, however, was GORGEOUS! Sunshine!
I had to step out and take some quick shots around the house in celebration!

So beautiful!

WHOOHOO!  My new hooks! I'm not sure when I will be able to break these bad boys in, but WOW are the beautiful! I just received them in the mail today and I could hardly wait to hold them. I ordered these beauties from Polymer Clay Creations on Etsy. They were made just for me by Angela and I could not be more pleased with how they turned out! All I need is a hook in the shade of green and I've got my rainbow! LOVE!

Such great bright colors today! I love our peaceful hollow!
mmmmmmmmm ... some ripe tomatoes from the garden ...
So called "weeds" ... I think not.
Doot Doot the model ... Happy International Cat Day!
The best part of my day ... feeding, changing, snuggling and overall loving my little Ernie.
The greatest thing in my life ever!
